The next generation of the LandCruiser 300 series expects to have a V6 diesel and a V6 petrol engine – and eventually a hybrid – but not a V8.

The iconic Toyota Land Cruiser V8 is nearing the end of the road, with well-established sources claiming that the new generation 300 series will have a choice V6 turbo-diesel i V6 turbo petrol when it appears on sale in late 2021 – before joining the V6 hybrid a few years later.
Toyota says it's too early to talk about the technical details of what will be the first brand new LandCruiser in 14 years CarAdvice understands that the current 4.5-liter V8 turbo-diesel and 4.6-liter V8 petrol will be abolished due to stricter global emissions standards.
It is unlikely that the V8 could win a stoppage in execution, given that the emissions standards in Australia are ten years behind the European, but it is unlikely that Toyota will invest additional engineering resources in an old engine with a limited lifetime.
While hard-core LandCruiser fans will complain about the loss of towing skills and healthy sound of the V8, it seems that Toyota is not able to avoid pushing the car industry into reduced engines that produce the same or more power from smaller capacities.
Despite repeated requests for clarification on the future of the LandCruiser V8, Toyota says it can not discuss future model plans.
However, at the recent launch of the new Toyota Hiace van, the head of product planning and development for Toyota Australia, Bernard Nadal, said CarAdvice: "You will see that most brands move downwards with the V8, whether it's petrol or diesel configurations. This is mainly in the search for greater efficiency and reduction of CO2 emissions, so this is a global trend.
As we announced in May, Toyota did not produce a turbo-diesel V6 earlier – but such a motor could be used in other models, such as the LandCruiser 70 series and the ultimate HiLux utility.
Although there were many speculations about hybrid LandCruiser, CarAdvice understands that the variant will arrive a few years after the 300 series starts selling, after being initially launched with the V6 diesel and V6 gasoline.
"Toyota is obviously a leader in hybrid technology," Nadal said. European [brands] they usually switched to diesel engines with a turbocharger. With the struggles that they now have in Europe, we know that many of them will switch to gasoline with a turbocharger [engines]. "
"Many of them already are in the form of electrification, so from a technological point of view, we have a lot of options going forward, publicly announced in our announcements from 2025 and 2030."
Although the shift to the V6 power – and possibly hybrid technology – is obviously inevitable, Toyota insists that LandCruiser will not lose any of its options for off-road or towing.
"I think it will suit us well for the needs of our clients," Nadal said. "Currently hybrid download." [of Toyotas] It's incredible. It works very well for us, not only in Australia, but also in key European markets and in America. It's the right sign where we are going, he said.
Toyota has previously claimed to offer a hybrid version in each model by 2025.
"About 2025, every Toyota and Lexus model worldwide will be available either as a dedicated electrified model or will have an electrified option," the statement said.
For now, however, it is unclear whether Toyota will introduce a diesel hybrid or a LandCruiser petrol hybrid. To date, Toyota has not produced a diesel hybrid version of any vehicle.
"Although we have nothing to affirm with regard to diesel hybrids in commercial vehicles, this is not something that would definitely be excluded at this stage. We always assess our model line and question what is right for our customers and the market," said Toyota Australia, Director of Public Jobs Brodie Bott.
To prepare skeptical rural customers for the future introduction of hybrid technology, Toyota will launch a "hybrid educational tour" of regional Australia.
"We will soon be embarking on what we call hybrid cavalcade," says Sean Hanley, vice president of marketing and sales in Australia. "It's not really a hybrid vehicle sales tool, it's the beginning of a regional hybrid technology conference in Australia.
Mr. Hanley says Toyota wants to "start a conversation with regional Australia," because until the recent arrival of the new RAV4 SUV, the company did not have a hybrid offer "which would necessarily be attractive … for agricultural land."
Although Mr. Hanley would not be inclined to supply the next generation of Land Cruiser engines, he said that the vehicle will not lose any of its options.
"We are confident enough to say that if we implement hybrid technology variants [they would have] advanced traction requirements, no compromise, "said Mr. Hanley." We understand that hybrid technology should not jeopardize the ability. This is our clear thinking going forward. "
While Toyota is yet to announce the moment for the next generation of LandCruiser, it has confirmed that development has progressed well, including local testing.
In the meantime, if the LandCruiser V8 goes out, industrial insiders predict stampede in model buying saloons, as traditional customers prefer larger capacity engines, and the V8 has proved to be so popular.
HIBRID LANDCRUISER: POSSIBILITIES FOR 2025
If the V8 LandCruiser is plugged in and the hybrid power becomes an option, it will not be the end of the road, as many would be afraid.
Based on what we know is available today, Toyota could adapt the 3.5-liter hybrid petrol V6 engine used in the Lexus LS500h sedan, which is steady with continuous variable transmission (CVT) and produces a combined power of 294 kW and 650 Nm of torque – this is a higher power of 94 kW and the same output torque as the current twin turbo 4.5-liter V8 diesel.
Even a non-hybrid turbo V6 could be a tempting proposal to replace the V8 petrol LandCruiser.
Toyota currently has a 3.5-liter V6 with a double turbocharger, which produces 310 kW of power and 600 Nm of torque, which eclipses the current 4.6-liter V8 gasoline modest output of 227kW and 439Nm of torque.
