With Windows 7, another dinosaur will leave the digital world stage for half a year. From January 14, 2020, Microsoft will discontinue support for the operating system. Then there will be no software or security updates. Users who continue to adhere to the old system risk being exposed to unprotected cyber attacks and malicious software.
For excited whirlpools such as Windows XP support five years ago, the end for Windows 7 is no longer a worry. However, security experts also strongly advise that in this case the old operating system is not used. Microsoft advises to be ready to change the system and give advice on changes to the current Windows 10. That would be the "most secure Windows of all time", the company said in a statement.
The fact that Microsoft users are so reluctant to switch to the new system has to do with money. Unlike Apple, which has been distributing its new MacOS versions for free for years, Microsoft and its partners are looking for money to keep up.
Although Windows 7 and 8 Microsoft's free upgrade was made available free for a long time after Windows 10. This offer, however, expired for two years. Since then, Microsoft has offered a system of about 145 euros for download. However, some specialized media also provide information on how users can continue to switch to the current system for free, for example, by downloading the "Media Creation Tool" on the Microsoft Web site. In addition, some third party suppliers charge the latest versions of their programs, so they work smoothly under Windows 10.
They were not afraid of big fears
For too many excitement you should – unlike Windows XP – from Windows 7, but do not worry. "Our customers have learned from the Windows XP situation," says Sabine Bendiek, Microsoft's chief, in Germany. "Those who deal with change at an early stage minimize risks and costs and benefit from current security features and innovations."
At that time not only many carefree private users, but many companies used the old XP way beyond the end of support. In many companies, old programs could only work with an outdated operating system. Also, ATMs are often put on XP and stored by security experts at that time on the go. Nowadays big analysts' homes are waiting for the incentive to sell new computers. Also, awareness of user safety should be significantly increased.
Microsoft's Windows is also in Germany with 45.6 percent of the most widespread operating system on desktop computers and notebooks. At present, the 10-year old Windows 7 oldtimer is still active in almost every fourth desktop computer (24.2 percent), The current Windows 10 meanwhile uses two-thirds of Windows users (66.3 percent).
On October 22, 2009, Microsoft introduced Windows 7 as the successor to the unsuccessful Windows Vista on the market. At that time, the digital world looked a bit different than today: Just two years ago there was an iPhone on the market, which introduced the smartphone era. In 2009, Google launched its first Android smartphone "G1" in the German market.
No cultural shock
Already in January 2009, former director of Microsoft Steve Ballmer filed a request to open the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the first beta version of Windows 7 – too much was the failure of the Vista group on the neck. Even the heir of Windows 8 came up with problems that caused problems and did not convince many users. Especially in many companies, Windows 7 should still be in use today.
Today, Microsoft has re-established a solid software base with its current version of Windows 10Flops Vista and Windows 8 have passed. Just a few weeks after the launch, the system was taken over 100 million times, Microsoft said. As a result, corporate clients have also discovered the system. According to Microsoft, it is now installed on 800 million devices worldwide.
Software potential, for example with a digital assistant Cortan, the new Edge browser and support for touch features that Microsoft has since proved with its first laptop series, Surface Book. Nostalgics, tinker lovers and Windows 7 do not have to fear cultural shock. In commercial journals, for example, there are tips on how to use additional tools to miss the new Windows 10 fantastic gadgets and start menu and thus give a new computer a retro suit.
