Osram in talks with AMS »Leadersnet

Merger talks are underway – to expect an agreement no later than next week.

Following an offer to take over Osram, the Styrian semiconductor group ams is now negotiating with the German lamp manufacturer for a framework merger agreement. Discussions about the strategic concept, locations and other cornerstones would take place at different levels, according to company circles. No later than this week, a deal can be expected this week.

The Swiss sensor and chip maker AMS is to report them to the German financial regulation Bafin for approximately € 4.2 billion in tender bids and is seen under time pressure. That's because Osram has already received a takeover bid from US financial investors Bain Capital and Carlyle, and the shareholder deadline has been accepted on September 5th. Because the ams want to start their equivalent within this deadline and the Bafin can check 15 business days, the Styrians want to submit their offer to Bonn authorities by Thursday.

Employee representatives fear fear

Representatives of 6,000 Osram employees in Germany, on the other hand, continue to show AMS cold shoulder – despite the fact that Austrians are moving LED production from Asia to Germany and want to expand the factory in Regensburg. "The AMS hiccup is not soothing to us and it is to the detriment of employees," said Osram Deputy Labor Council Director Osram Ursula Krüger, who also belongs to the General Labor Council. "We will not allow our pages and Osram to be compromised." (Red)
