High temperatures and polluted waters affected Tokyo's pre-2020 Test matches.

(Still) not a pleasure

The quality of the water in the Tokyo Gulf competition venues leaves something to be desired.

The problem is still known from the last Rio Olympics: and in the Brazilian metropolis, the water in the competition sites was completely polluted.

The situation is similar in Tokyo. In a water quality check at Odaiba Marine Park, fecal bacteria levels far exceeded the limit. The Para-triathlon test prior to the 2020 Paralympics was therefore only performed as a duathlon.

As a measure against the high concentration of E.coli, Olympic organizers now want to attach more filter screens to Tokyo Bay.

Triathlon sunstroke

High temperatures also cause bad luck. In the women's triathlon on Thursday the track was shortened from 10 to 5 kilometers due to heat and high humidity. Cassandre Beaugrand (Fr) had to be taken to the hospital for a stroke after the competition.

The heat also resulted in incidents in Tokyo at the Junior Rowing World Championships and in sailing competitions among spectators and participants.
